The perception is that Burnham and Berrow is an under rated gem – possibly because it is on the Somerset coast which does not have the same visual impact of an Atlantic coastline.
It is classified as an "out and back" golf course, with a general consensus of opinion that it is pretty going out and pretty tough coming back. The prevailing wind usually means the wind over your left shoulder and 'helping' going out, against and slightly from the right coming home.
This is actually a very tough test of golf and you definitely need your "A" game to fully enjoy the experience. The course is ringed with natural high dunes, deep pot-hole bunkers and lightening greens, so a good score round here is in fact a very good score. The closing two holes, a testing par-three and a fierce dog-leg par four requiring two shots over dune to a green protected by deep bunkers, can be card-wreckers – that is if your card hasn't been wrecked already!
The elevated tees provide some good views of the coastline but you may just need to concentrate on your golf!
