Built specifically for the Ryder Cup, this course was opened in 2007 and contains some dramatic holes within the hills of the Usk valley.
With no fewer than 6 signature holes, water in play on 9 holes and a back tee course length of nearly 7500 yards, this is not a place for the feint hearted. There are however more 'risk and reward' holes on this course than any other we have played and even if you don’t manage to play here, the Ryder Cup should certainly be worth watching.
The outward nine seemed to have an inland links feel to it, but the focal point of the course is the really the closing stretch from 15 to 18 inclusive. These holes are cut into the side of a mountain, creating a natural amphitheatre for spectators and some serious challenges for any golfer.
The final hole is a stunning par 5 that plays to an elevated green guarded by water and is the culmination of a very tough test for even the most accomplished player. Probably suited more to the single figure handicapper, the 2010 is without doubt an exciting place to play.
