The saying "hidden gem" is perhaps an overused description these days, but Hankley Common is certainly hidden and an absolute gem. It is an expansive piece of heathland carefully moulded into a superb golf course that seems to improve with age. Indeed, when the heather is in flower it is one of the most beautiful inland courses in Britain – a mass of purple set amongst the bright green baize.

As well as visually attractive the heather provides a perfect definition for the fairways - but that's where the positives for the heather end. It is thick and tangly and if you stray off line it almost guaranteed to cost you at least a shot.

It could be argued that Hankley does not have as much variety as its counterparts but each hole is full of quality. The par 3's are particularly good with the 7th probably the best. A full 183 yards up hill over a mass of heather to a green guarded by two large bunkers.

Outstanding greens and a friendly reception help to make this a very attractive place to play golf. Don't miss out!
