It is difficult to believe just how much the wind comes into play at Hunstanton – even though you barely get a glimpse of the sea on this narrow stretch of links land. The locals described it as a "mere zephyr," but we reckoned it was at least a two club wind.
With tight springy fairways, carefully manicured bunkers and fast unpredictable greens, it is an excellent challenge for any accomplished golfer. It is a very good course – what we would describe as an out and back links, with the wind blowing strongly against on the way back!
The Par 3 14th produced something we hadn't experienced before – a blind shot on a par 3 – and a long one at that! Now in common with most links, Hunstanton has a number of the traditional blind shots, but this was something different and exceedingly difficult.
Tough but fair would be a general description. Its tucked away and not easy to reach, but well worth the trip.
One important point to note is that Hunstanton is a two ball course for singles and foursomes play. Four ball play is permitted only on Tuesdays from 10.30 am!
