Just down the road from Carnoustie and not as famous as its illustrious neighbour, this course falls into the category of love it or loathe it!. If you are having one of your “straight days” then it presents a very interesting but achievable challenge. If your tee shots are a little wayward however, then you could spend the day “ball mooching” and miss out on some of the more subtle gems of this very natural piece of land. There are quite a few blind shots and the wind is never far away from this corner of Scotland – but then that is what makes links courses such a challenge. It has a gentle opening before the pine forests begin. Instead of the traditional sand dunes, heather and hillocks are the challenges on this course. The interesting thing is that the course has a parkland look about it, but the trees do not really come into play except on the third hole. It’s a club that has a very limited membership so it’s rarely busy and it’s an opportunity to test yourself against the elements and the natural terrain. Don’t miss out!
