This course is so far North you have to make a special effort to play here. Make no mistake – it is worth every mile. It’s wild and isolated but in immaculate condition and we can understand why this course, more than any, receives rave reviews from the golfing fraternity.
Its an “out and back” layout with a very modest 1st hole that can lull you into a false sense of security. With most of the greens set on a plateau however and lots of gorse and pot bunkers to catch any wayward shots, the course very soon shows its teeth.
This is very unpretentious terrain and some of the great holes are not sculptured from the numerous dunes but simply follow the natural contours. Such a hole is the 14th, a long par 4 without bunkers that is literally a wonderful golfing experience. Our favourite though, was the superb 5th – a short par 4 from an elevated tee with gorse on the left and fairway bunkers to the right. The approach to a depcetively long narrow green calls for absololute precision – a fine example that you don’t need length to make a difficult hole.
