It doesn't feel like you are in a bustling suburb of Croydon only 13 miles from Central London, but you are and there is a feeling of intimacy and seclusion once the round gets underway at The Addington.
There is something eccentric about this old course. Perhaps though eccentric is too strong and "unusual" would be a better word. For a start, the round begins with a Par 3 and follows this with another on the 3rd hole. You wouldn't expect ravines in South London, but there are some here – often spanned by rickety old trestle bridges. Beautiful heathland dells, mature pine and birch trees compliment the tangly mauve heather which provides much of the hazards at this splendid venue
The Par three 13th is the signature hole and justifiably so. 230 yards from the back tees, it plays all its length with an up slope in front of the green. You need to hit your tee shot to the right of the centre of the green and any tee shot finishing on the green is an achievement.
"Must play" is an overworked cliché - but very appropriate for this course"
