The entrance to the Berkshire and the character of the clubhouse gives a clear indication of the quality in store for any visitor to this club. The unique layout of the Red course: 6 par 3’s, 6 par 4’s and 6 par 5’s, gives an added twang to an already impressive layout and any reservations that this may be a poor relation to the nearby Sunningdale are soon dispelled.
Like most courses, you need to drive well and of course avoid the dreaded heather. The fairways are generous however and quality shots are rewarded with good views of the next target. The tree lined design provides individuality to each of the holes and a genuine feeling of exclusiveness.
Like its near neighbours Sunningdale and Swinley Forest, there is lots of heather and the place oozes class. Only the 18th hole shows any sign of weakness, which is a pity because the remainder are brilliantly designed; especially the par 3 10th, an uphill long carry over a heather ridden gorge.
It’s always a good idea to play here in the morning in order to embrace the lunch where the steak and kidney pie is just legendry!
