It will never be as good as the Ailsa course because it doesn't have access to the coastline area that hugs the lighthouse, but it does have the same springy turf and the feeling of quality possessed by its sister course. It has been referred to as 'a warm up course for Ailsa' but it does have some individual quality and is quite a tough challenge for golfers of all levels.

It also has some great holes, not least the short but stunning par 4 8th hole. The view from the tee at the top of Bains Hill is magnificent and the drive gives no indication of what is ahead. The green is situated in a little rocky cove, seemingly over the cliff edge, and the blind approach has to be deftly controlled to avoid finding water, or indeed the beach.

The 9th skirts the coastline and punishes severely any tendency to fade and the long par 4 10th brings you to the highest point of the course where the views are impressive (providing the weather is a little kind).

It is expensive but this is a superb part of the world to play golf.
