Waterville plays on a promontory surrounded by the sea. It's a stunning remote location with breathtaking views of the MacGillicuddy Reeks mountain range and the Atlantic ocean that are difficult to absorb.

It is a long way from anywhere, but if you are prepared to make the journey you just know it's going to be worth every mile or in this case, kilometre. The rather unpretentious clubhouse disguises the treat that's in store for any golfer but the spacious balcony does afford superb views over the 1st and 10th tees and the 9th and 18th greens!

The course itself is an absolute gem and very cleverly designed. The gently undulating first nine sees virtually every hole facing a different direction – whilst the back nine weaves its way through an avenue of tall dunes.

There are few courses that can boast such a fine collection of unique and testing golf holes and Waterville has three outstanding par 3's as well as three superb par 5's – the relatively short 11th being the pick of the bunch!

Rain or shine, this is a course and an experience that must not be missed!
