Probably the most famous of the three courses given its TV coverage, but in our view, just the weakest of the three; although that is not to say it is bad. On the contrary, it is a fine golf course, only slightly overshadowed by the superb Duchess and Marquess.
There is a constant debate on the pecking order of the Woburn golf courses and in truth it is very difficult to select an out and out favourite (probably dependent on how you play on the day).
Our favourite hole is the famous Par 3 3rd – framed by rhododendrons and gorse, the green is some 100 feet below the teeing area. Only a short iron is required to reach the green, but holding the ball on the putting surface is another art!
This is a course for the serious golfer and a real challenge for low handicap golfers. At just over 7000 yards you need to be long and straight if you are to challenge the par and it really is a true test of golf.
