Without doubt the Dukes and the Duchess courses at Woburn have similar characteristics. Whilst they both retain their individuality and are superb courses in their own right, the Marquess is different in a number of significant ways.
It is the newest of the three and like the Dukes over 7000 yards. However it is more undulating than the other two and much more forgiving for the wayward driver. Opened in 1999, it has wide fairways and a heathland feel which encourages you to open your shoulders, without the fear of a slight pull or fade which would result in playing from within the trees on the other two courses!
Our favourite is the 7th – the signature hole and a superb par 5. Only a big drive down the left of the spinney pines that sit in the middle of the fairway, will enable you to reach the green in two. Anything slightly right, scuttles down the hill and into big trouble.
This is a course that caters for both high and low handicappers – but frankly any one of the three Woburn courses is an experience you would not want to miss!
